My Motto: If you can’t eat it, why would you put it on your skin?? Your skin is the biggest absorbent organ in the body…..and if you can’t pronounce or recognise any ingredient in your personal care products, chances are that they are not safe to use. I have always made my own face and body balms, and enjoyed using them. While firm body balms are wonderful to use, I have always thought I should try to make a more viscous moisturiser. With the same ingredients as my body balms and a little experimentation, I have cracked the code!! EASY AS!!
What equipment you need:
High speed blender
Small pump bottles (I reuse mine) or lotion bottles

Ingredients:
1 cup coconut oil (I use Blue Coconut Oil)
1 cup sesame seed oil (or oil of choice)
15 – 20 drops essential oil of choice (I used 5 lavender and 15 geranium)
2 TBS beeswax, melted
1/2 cup filtered water
Method:
Place coconut oil in blender, add sesame seed oil and blend till mixed together, on low speed, add the melted bees wax and blend together on high speed. Add water slowly and blend on high speed until the moisturiser reaches desired consistency (don’t be afraid to add more or less water…it depends on your preference). Finally, add the essential oils and gently blend till infused.
Pour moisturiser into clean, dry pump or squeeze bottles for easy dispensing. Done!
All that is left to be done is the labels. Don’t forget to add the date you have made it. I store any excess bottles in the fridge until I get to use them, this way, your moisturiser is preserved without needing any nasty additives. The moisturiser lasts well but I tend to work through a small bottle in roughly 2 months.

Your own Hand Crafted Moisturiser also makes great gifts, especially when you make a lovely label to go on it. I recommend this as a night-time moisturiser, as it is oil-rich and is great for feeding the face before bed time. There is also nothing stopping you from using this as a hand and body moisturiser…..just pop it into a bigger dispensing bottle.
Each time you make your own moisturiser, you can play around with the balance…..use different oils, different essential oil blends so you never get bored, but remember to use oils which are suitable for the face (no citrus or peppermint oils as they can burn the eyes and skin).

Improve your skin with skin food! This moisturiser is made with edible ingredients…good for your health, good for the pocket and good for the environment too! And less store bought product in plastic bottles means less plastic discarded, yay!
Go on, MYO Skinfood!
Ciao, Jizzy
